Scarf with Indigo Veggie Print
Indigo was used as ink in colonial times. During this workshop, guests will learn the importance of ink in colonial America and experience how indigo ink was made. Using real quills sourced from Middleton Place, participants can try their hand at this historic technique and take home their creation.
Join Dr. Nancy Simpson, Middleton Place textile craft interpreter and experienced indigo educator, in this four-part indigo workshop series. From September to December, Nancy will teach guests about the varied aspects of indigo, including indigo as a plant, processing in the colonial way to obtain dye “cake” and its history in the Lowcountry. Each workshop includes a one-of-a-kind hands-on experience, and guests will have the opportunity to take home their creation.
